Mamma Mia Play Review

Noah Chi Ms. Guarino IB Lit & Perf  03/05/20 The play “Mamma Mia” by Catherine Johnson had projected many themes throughout the plot. It showed the relationships between certain characters, such as Dana and her daughter Sophie, as well as Dana and the three possible fathers of Sophie. It also showed the theme of forgiveness and trust, about how people come back after leaving and regretting their decisions. The plot is about a daughter who is going to get married while trying to figure out who her dad is so the wedding can be a family bondage as well. In the act of doing so, she tries to keep it hidden from her mother because she wants it to be a surprise, however her mother does not think the same way when she finds out that all the potential fathers are there at the same time. Walter comes home drunk acts out the chant with Beneatha calls himself "Flaming Spear" Ruth questions everything that happened that night George (other bf) picks Beneatha up Beneatha cut off a lot of her hair Beneath and George argue over African heritage Walter talks to George about possible future business plans  George doesn't care Walter starts making fun of George because George didn't care George sees himself as superior over Walter George and Beneatha leave Ruth and Walter fight about wasting money They ease out of arguing but there is a big tension between them Mama comes home Says she used part of money for a house Ruth is happy Walter is mad because he wants to use the money for his business idea Mama says that the house is in a white neighborhood Whole family is scared Walter feels betrayed by family Makes Mama feeling guilty Mama feels worried once again
